The Placement Test (DBS) is a test administered by the FSMVU Foreign Languages Department to new students registered with our university. The Placement Test is conducted before the English Proficiency Examination (FSMEPT). The purpose of this test is to assess students' English language skill levels and to place students in the appropriate classes. Students who achieve a score of 65 or higher in this exam are considered successful and are entitled to sit the FSMEPT. As of the partnership agreement between our University and EnglishScore on 07.11.2022, performed in the EnglishScore application by entering the institution code is also used to place the students in the appropriate levels.
Students who don't participate in the exam are considered unsuccessful in the DBS and they start preparatory education from Elementary level. Students who are eligible to sit the FSMEPT after being successful in the DBS but do not get a score over 65 in the FSMEPT, are placed in an appropriate class according to the scores they get from the DBS.
The DBS consists of 5 stages. They are as follows:
Elementary: 20 multiple-choice questions assessing Reading-Listening-Grammar-Vocabulary skills / 15 points
Pre-Intermediate: 20 multiple-choice questions assessing Reading-Listening-Grammar-Vocabulary skills / 15 points
Intermediate: 20 multiple-choice questions assessing Reading-Listening-Grammar-Vocabulary skills / 15 points
Upper-Intermediate: 20 multiple-choice questions assessing Reading-Listening-Grammar-Vocabulary skills / 15 points
Speaking Exam: An interview assessing speaking skills / 20 points
Writing Exam: A written exam assessing writing skills / 20 points
